Tempo Instrument

Tempo Instrument Inc. was founded in 1956 as a manufacturer of timing devices. Over the years, Tempo concentrated on the design and manufacturing of power control and power monitoring equipment targeting the high reliability and harsh environmental needs of the Defense and Utility industry. Today Tempo develops, manufactures and markets a diverse range of instruments, software and equipment for measuring, controlling, recording and analyzing power quality and for protecting power circuits.

The Company's primary market is power utilities and large industrial companies. Tempo is located in Hauppauge, New York and is a subsidiary of Bowthorpe plc. Tempo has recently completed the transfer and consolidation of all operations of the Industrial Products Division of Metrosonics, Inc., previously located in Rochester, N.Y. Metrosonics designed and manufactured portable power quality instruments used by utility service engineers and plant maintenance engineers. Metrosonics continues to be the brand name used to market the new line of PQ instrumentation.

The company utilizes independent sales representatives to cover all the major North American Markets including the U.S., Canada and Mexico. All of the reps concentrate on electric utilities and are not allowed to carry product lines that would be competitive with Tempo. Three Regional Managers oversee and support thirty sales representatives around the country.

Management is in the process of moving from the existing defense based quality standards to the ISO 9000 implementation, planned for late 2000.
